Matched Coffee Break
From everything I heard about this book, I assumed the matching plot was the basic story that everything else was added to. I'm starting to suspect it wasn't. The original seems to be some sort of Giver/Fahrenheit 451 mashup, and then the author was told to stick Ky in there.
One of the things fiction can do is hold up a mirror to society. There doesn't seem to be any sign of that here. Nor is it just a look at another society for the sake of it - everything about this society invites comparison to our own, but only to congratulate us for being better than them.

Fault in Our Stars, Chapter 7
Last chapter, weird logic lapses. This chapter, I'm pretty sure Augustus just asked an adult if it was okay for him to disregard Hazel's sexual boundaries.

Reviewing Rowling Update
Chapter 6 is FINALLY up. Please do comment over there, or I won't see it. :)
These take so much longer to do than the FiOS chapters, which I can usually knock out in one less-than-an-hour sitting. Part of it is that the chapters are longer and have more substance, and part of it is that there's just a lot more that needs to be said. The problems aren't as obvious and can be a bit boring. The posts are almost three times as long as FiOS posts.
Regardless, enjoy!

Matched Ch1
Now that I’ve found the way to fly, which direction should I go into the night? My wings aren’t white or feathered; they’re green, made of green silk, which shudders in the wind and bends when I move—first in a circle, then in a line, finally in a shape of my own invention. The black behind me doesn’t worry me; neither do the stars ahead.
Most of the opening lines I've seen so far have been good. This marks a stark departure from that.
