WWZ - LHASA, THE PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF TIBET
I think this is my favorite chapter.
In contrast with last chapter, the behavior of people here seems very human. It's about people responding to the disease like people always do, by fleeing the area, and responding to sick family members like people always do, by trying to take them along anyway.
And it's pretty internally consistent, even if it's hard to believe this led to a full-on zombie apocalypse.

WWZ - Warnings, GREATER CHONGQINGN THE UNITED FEDERATION OF CHINA
Section 1 is Warnings.
Our first oral history takes place in GREATER CHONGQINGN THE UNITED FEDERATION OF CHINA. The opening mentioned "victory in China" day, and the typical trope is to have the infection be worst in the places it started, so you can figure it must have started in China and this is about our patient zero.

World War Z Introduction
World War Z.
This book was recommended several times as an accurate/scientific take on the subject. I ignored such things because I'd read the opening of the Zombie Survival Guide and hated it. The author spends his time setting up his version of zombies rather than traditional ones and coming off as a smug ass as he does it. He isn't going with the most common zombie tropes but he still spends time mocking those idiots who dare think they function differently than his own pet version, and despite the fact he obviously thinks it's the most realistic, the only thing worse than his science is the repetitive way he writes it. And he brings up the issue of zombie sex in a way that's very transparently trying to look like he doesn't want to but has to because it's such a common line of thought, and I really didn't need that look into how his brain works.
But I kept hearing about it, including claims it was better than the first book. The fact the book takes place as a retrospective is rather unique and I thought lent some credence to the idea it might be realistic, given that one of the various plot holes zombie books tend to have is how unbeatable a bunch of braindead shamblers are.
So I read it. It didn't live up to its hype, but there were some good ideas in it. There were also some bad ideas and a great deal of terrible execution. So, your standard zombie novel, really, but done more cleverly than usual.

If I Had to Read It, So Do You
Just thought you all would enjoy the cover description of Stolen by Lucy Christopher:
A girl: Gemma, 16, at the airport, on her way to a family vacation.
A guy: Ty, rugged, tan, too old, oddly familiar, eyes blue as ice.
She steps away. For just a second. He pays for her drink. And drugs it. They talk. Their hands touch. And before Gemma knows what's happening, Ty takes her. Steals her away. To sand and heat. To emptiness and isolation. To nowhere. And expects her to love him.
Written as a letter from a victim to her captor, this is Gemma's desperate story of survival. Ty has STOLEN her body. Against every instinct screaming inside her, will he also steal Gemma's heart?

Upcoming
So here are the top four:
Pokemon Blue 99 (38%)
Matched 96 (37%)
Battle Royale 81 (31%)
Delirium 78 (30%)
Combined with the secondary poll on what people don't want, we get
Matched 96-36 = 60
Delirium 78-39 = 39
Pokemon Blue 99-76 = 23
Battle Royale 81-77 = 4
This is why it's important to vote in both polls.
So it seems I should go with Matched, which has almost as many votes as Pokemon Blue and far fewer antivotes. Graceling should wrap up one week before the end of this month, at which point I'll be posting the first few chapters of WWZ and carapace fic (you will learn to love them or else) until June. Depending on the situation, I might just go with Pokemon Blue anyway, it'll have more to do with how much time it looks like I'll have to work on these.
The polls will remain up for a bit in case this does not properly reflect your will, after which I'll throw up a new set. I checked out Unwind, which was brought up a while ago and immediately dismissed on the grounds I don't need to touch things everyone agrees are stupid, and discovered that actually it was well received and actual professionals in charge of actual reviews they get paid actual money for said things like "the power of the novel lies in what it doesn't do: come down explicitly on one side or the other." The sides being if murdering a thirteen year old for their organs is right or not.
So that'll be added to the polls next, along with sequels to stuff I've already done. So if you really, really want to learn what happens next in the book series about if raping thirteen year olds is right or not or any of the rest, you can vote for that soon. And if you have more suggestions, you should give them now because I can't edit the polls once I put them up.
Edit: adding links into the Future Books post, so people can check out the books' openings easily.
